For this project I was tasked with creating a how to video. I decided to bse it on harvesting your own home grown marijuanna. Since marijuanna has been legalised in Canada, many are trying to grow their own marijuanna. However many are not aware of the proper way to harvest and store their marijuanna for maximum life expectancy of their hard work. This would be the perfect opportunity to educate and entertain the viewer.
For this assignment I was tasked with curating the text, illustrations and piecing it all together to create the final video. I started by listing each step in the harvesting process and simplifying the list to the key steps for this process. Once I had those steps I was then able to sketch a storyboard. After the storyboard was completed the script was next. It is essential to have the proper tone and vocabulary as you want to appeal to first time growers. It isn’t a competition to show off who knows the most about weed but an opportunity to share knowledge and help others. Creating the illustrations is one of my favourite parts in creating this educational video. I wanted the illustrations to be accurate but still retain a fun vibe to make the overall visual more entertaining. The best part however, is bringing the illustrations to life! I adore making simple illustrations come to life with a personality of its own.
This is one of my best pieces that I wish to include in my portfolio for many reasons. Above all I believe it perfectly showcases my abilities in creating motion work. I am able to demonstrate my abilities in creating illustrations, realistic movements, engaging text presentation and timing. I am extremely proud of the work I did on this project. I feel the composition, colours, fonts and illustrations work harmoniously to create a seamless educational video. Many motion studios create content like this for clients and I feel this perfectly shows my abilities as a motion designer.
